Home / How to Build a Wooden Gazebo
Gazebos are a great addition to any garden. They can provide shade on hot sunny days and shelter when the weather isn’t so good which tends to happen a lot in this country!
A gazebo can become the focal of a garden and is a perfect place for family and friends to get together and spend countless hours enjoying the outdoors.
Building a wooden gazebo isn’t that difficult. The shape and size is up to you, gazebo’s can be square, oblong or circular. You can either start from scratch or buy an oak framed gazebo kit from Trade Oak Building Kits.
The first thing to decide is where your gazebo is going to be positioned in your garden and what type of base will it be sitting on. First off make sure the site is flat, level and square. A gazebo can be built on concrete, paving slabs, gravel, decking or lawn, it depends on the look you are after and what you are planning to use your gazebo for. If you’re planning on a solid base check for wires or underground pipes.
When erecting a wooden gazebo, it’s best to secure the posts to the ground. You can do this with using L brackets which are screwed to the bottom of the posts and the base. It’s not a good idea to bury the posts in the ground.
If you are planning to build a wooden hot tub gazebo it’s best to site it on decking. The posts should be anchored to the decking either with screws or if you don’t want to put holes in your decking then the posts can put into weighted concrete planters.
The easiest and most cost-effective way of building a wooden gazebo is to buy a kit. Trade Oak offer a range of oak framed gazebo kits in different shapes and sizes and are precision engineered to last a lifetime. They can be roofed to provide shelter or can be used as excellent frames for growing plants. Whatever design you chose it will provide an attractive centrepiece to your garden.
Trade Oak even have a design team and can create a bespoke gazebo tailored exactly for your needs.
6 ways to enjoy a gazebo
Outdoor dining
If you like al fresco dining with your family and friends a gazebo will shelter you from the sun in summer and the worst of the rain.
Hot tub gazebo
If you have or are planning a hot tub, why not add some shelter by positioning it under a gazebo. This can be a great feature in your garden. You can add extra privacy by adding sides to the gazebo.
Play area
Gazebo’s don’t have to be just for adults. They can be a place for kids to enjoy as well. It’s a great way to get the kids out of the house and into some fresh air. Add a table and chairs plus their favourite toys and they’ll be entertained for hours.
Gardening area
If you enjoy gardening a gazebo can be a great place to do your planting and potting. Add a bench and some shelves to store your pots and plants. They will be in the fresh air ready for planting.
Fitness area
How about using your gazebo for an aerobic exercise area, or for yoga or pilates? Rather than working out in your house you can do it in the fresh air.
Car shelter
If you want to give your car extra protection but don’t have a car port. Then a gazebo will do the job.
If this has inspired you to get a gazebo then contact Trade Oak, we’ve got a wide range to choose from. They are simple to build and will last for generations.
