FAQ’s

Why is Oak available in a range of colours?
OAK varies from light tan to deep leathery brown with black spots. Variations are simply due to differences in climate and soil.

Does Oak ever fade?
Over the years oak naturally matures and the colour will deepen, increasing richness and depth. We are sure you will find our furniture will help to compliment and enhance the character and warmth of your home

What type of Laquer do you use?
Nitrocellulose – a natural fibre found in woody plants. We have selected this lacquer finish for its excellent clarity and depth, as well as its heat, water, solvent, acid and alkali resistance. The finish is rubbed down between each coat after being allowed to cure thoroughly to ensure a silky smooth finish of optimum clarity and strength.

What is Kiln Dried Oak?
Kiln Dried Oak is wood that has been dried in a controlled environment that can prevent cracks appearing that are caused by uneven drying. It takes approx a year for every inch of thickness to dry and Oak sections larger than 3-4" in thickness cannot be fully dried (down to ~ 12% moisture) by any conventional kiln methods. The process of kiln drying is very space and energy intensive and greatly increases the cost of the oak to the consumer. Because of this, Dry Oak is usually only used in the manufacture of joinery products such as windows, doors, tables and specialist Beam Casings.

What Grade of Oak do you use?
We use high quality, Russian Oak – Grade A, with minimal knots, small colour variation, no sapwood and no fissures.

How do I polish my furniture?
We recommend using either clear or light ranges of Bees Wax.
Application: • Apply the wax in a thin even coat using a dry cloth, rubbing with the grain of the wood trying to work along the length of the table. Wipe off excess wax. Surface will appear dull at first. Work across the entire table top in the same fashion.
• Buff with a dry lint-free cloth when wax is dry to the touch (usually within 10 minutes) for a rich lustrous finish. Turn cloth often. If the finish appears greasy, it requires more buffing.
• IMPORTANT: Most waxes are flammable and as such should not be applied near an open flame.
